Australian Cypress is durable, stable and naturally termite resistant therefore is suited to this application. It is best painted or oiled, depending on the look you are after, but either way it will last for generations with minimal maintenance. Especially in inland Australia there are thousands of examples of cypress weatherboard houses built prior to the middle of last century, many of them significantly earlier.
